TopDoctor Magazine sat down with Blue Genes CEO Nick Glimcher to talk about the gap between genetic data and everyday patient care, and how Blue Genes is closing it.
The result was always in the chart. Just never in time.
"Too many genetic test results sit in a portal or patient file and are never acted on,” said Glimcher. “We've designed our entire approach around delivering precise, personalized information at the moment it matters and taking the heavy lifting out of the equation."
Other programs send a report. Blue Genes acts before the prescription is filled. Each prescription is checked against the patient's genetic profile, and the answer comes back in 300 milliseconds.
In the feature, Glimcher was candid about why precision medicine has been slow to reach everyday practice.
"Providers don't have 30 to 45 minutes to review a genetic test for proactive care,” continued Glimcher. “They're dealing with the immediate issues – 'I have the flu, my arm is broken,' or whatever it may be."
That's why Blue Genes does the analysis for the provider. Patients do one at-home swab, and the results last a lifetime. The answers arrive inside the provider's workflow instead of adding to their to-do list.
